Slatted fence Bournemouth project transforming a tired corner into a bright, sheltered space for year-round use. We removed the old fence, prepared a stable base, and installed a contemporary slatted boundary with a matching porcelain patio. As a result, the garden now feels lighter, smarter, and much easier to look after.
Client: Mark & Sarah, Bournemouth
Brief: Create a modern, private seating area with clean lines and low maintenance.
Slatted Fence Bournemouth – What We Built
- Contemporary slatted fencing: We used planed timber boards with stainless steel fixings for a crisp, linear look. First, we set the posts in concrete for long-term stability. Then, we spaced the boards evenly to filter wind and maintain privacy without boxing in the garden.
- Light-grey porcelain patio: Next, we laid porcelain on a reinforced, free-draining sub-base with a fine mortar bed. The surface is durable, non-slip and very easy to keep clean.
- Crisp detailing: Straight, square edges and tight joints run neatly with the horizontal fence lines for a modern finish.
- Weed control: We installed a weed-suppressing membrane below borders and used gravel to reduce maintenance and keep edges sharp.
- Future-proofing: We left concealed runs for optional lighting or screens, so you can add upgrades later without disturbance.
Why Choose a Slatted Fence?
Because the boards sit with small gaps, a slatted fence softens wind while still allowing light and air to pass through. Consequently, the area feels open—yet private. Moreover, the linear style pairs perfectly with porcelain, so the whole space looks calm and cohesive. For inspiration, see RHS Britain in Bloom.
Materials & Aftercare
- Fence: Pressure-treated softwood, ready to stain or oil. For best results, apply a UV-protecting oil every 12–18 months to reduce silvering and keep colour even.
- Porcelain paving: Stain-resistant and easy to jet-wash on a gentle setting. Regularly, sweep debris and wash with a neutral cleaner when required.
- Joints & edges: Resin jointing keeps weeds down and simplifies upkeep.
Outcome
Overall, the finished garden now feels calm, clean and organised—ideal for a morning coffee or evening entertaining. The slatted fence adds privacy without blocking light; meanwhile, the porcelain patio provides a tough, long-lasting surface that stays smart with minimal effort.
